Electric Car Batteries, Electric Car Battery

Electric cars are increasing in popularity today. While you can get an electric model car which runs on an electric engine, you can also get an electric conversion kit to replace your fuel powered engine with that of an electric powered one. One of the biggest reasons hampering the growth of electric cars however is the fact that most people have misconceptions regarding the performance they can get out of them.

Electric Car BatteryIt is therefore imperative that most people learn about electric car batteries which form a major component of electric powered cars. There is a major difference between the batteries of conventional car models and electric car models which begins from their difference in size itself. An electric car battery or a rechargeable battery shares the same battery system with that of a conventional one. The difference however is in the modern technology that it incorporates giving it a charging ability as well as a different construction.

This battery contains its electrolytes in a gel form and not a liquid form witnessed in conventional batteries. Because of the gel form of its batteries you can fix them in any orientation that is possible. This gives electric car manufactures the freedom to fit these electric car batteries in whichever orientation they desire making it possible to accommodate them in a smaller space area.

The fact that you can fit more number of batteries in a confined space means that you ultimately get a better mileage as well as engine output all from a single charge. There are two different types of batteries which are suitable for electric vehicles. These are the GEL battery and the VRAL battery. The GEL battery incorporates the same technology used by VRAL however it is more advanced and requires hardly any maintenance. The benefit of the GEL batteries is that they have a low chance of spilling because of their sophisticated sealing technology.

However the downside of these batteries is that they do not work properly if they are not used frequently. They also require constant discharging and charging. If they are used regularly however the batteries perform in an excellent condition. If you however don't use your car regularly then it's not advisable to use them as they can wear out fast.

Recent technological innovations have resulted in the use of the Lithium-Ion battery. Though these batteries have been around for some four decades or more it's only recently that they have been applied in cars. Nano technology has ensured that though these batteries are quite small in size they still pack a great amount of energy. These batteries also last for a longer time frame. Because of the lack of liquids in them users can easily drive them around for a long time.

You can also convert your fuel car to an electric model one by simple replacing its engine to an electric one. You can easily do so with the help of an electric conversion kit which is easily available in the market. There are some precautions to follow which will ensure that your electric vehicle's battery has a longer life span. A simple tip is to switch of the headlights of the car when not in use.

Stepping too hard on the pedal of the accelerator will also ensure that the battery is drained quickly. To ensure that your electric car battery keeps running efficiently you will have to get it serviced during regular intervals. Another thing to keep in mind is that the battery produces hydrogen gas when it is charging and therefore it should not be exposed to flame which could lead to explosion or fire.
